Sacred White Sculpture

Pacific Ocean: June 13, 2013

Over nine months between 2012 and 2013, I constructed a 22 ft. (6.7m) Proa–a Polynesian styled outrigger sailing canoe–at the University of California, Irvine. It was exhibited as a sculpture at the University Art Gallery, Irvine, where it rested in its potential. On June 13, 2013, upon the closing of the exhibition a brief ceremony for Sacred White Sculpture was conducted and led by Hawaiian Elder Thomas Kalama. I then sailed the vessel on the Pacific Ocean. The temperature was 73 °F (22 °C), Visibility: 10 miles (16 km), Wind speed: 9-10.5 knots 10-12mph.
